When Customers Need Car Storage

Most car storage needs start with a problem at home. The driveway is full, the garage is shared, or the vehicle sits unused for months and needs protection. Some owners store a vehicle while living elsewhere, during a renovation, or while deployed or between jobs. Others simply want to keep a valuable car out of the weather, away from dust and hail, and out of reach of anyone who might damage it.

Long-term parked vehicles are exposed to specific risks. Sun fades paint and cracks interior surfaces, dust and humidity can affect electronics, and batteries lose charge when a car sits unused. An enclosed space reduces most of those risks.

Our Automobile Storage Options

Private Enclosed Units

Private Enclosed units are 16 feet by 35 or 16 feet by 50 feet. Each has a secure, alarmed door and is fully enclosed, so the vehicle is protected from weather and out of sight. This is the right choice for a classic car, a motorhome-sized vehicle, or a work van that needs room around it.

Carport Units

Carport units are 14 feet by 45 feet or 14 feet by 35 feet. They provide a covered space that shelters a car from sun and rain at a lower cost than an enclosed unit. Carports are not enclosed, so they suit owners who want shade and protection from the weather more than full security.

Multi-Car and Larger Spaces

Customers who need to store more than one vehicle can rent a larger unit, such as a 16 by 50 foot Private Enclosed space, or use our Maxi-Storage units, which start at 10 by 20 feet and go up in size. Ask our office how to combine spaces for a fleet, collection, or family of vehicles.

Choosing the Right Size for Your Vehicle

Measure the length, width, and height of your vehicle, including mirrors and any roof-mounted equipment. Then allow at least two feet of clearance on each side for opening doors and moving around the vehicle. A sedan fits comfortably in a 16 by 35 foot unit, while a van or motorhome-sized vehicle usually needs a 16 by 50 foot unit.

• Compact or midsize car: 14x35 or 16x35 feet

• Full-size pickup or SUV: 16x35 feet or larger

• Large van or small motorhome: 16x50 feet

• Multiple vehicles or collection: 16x50 feet or Maxi-Storage

These are general guides. Measure your actual vehicle and call 559-271-5300 to confirm which unit fits before you arrive.

Preparing a Vehicle for Long-Term Storage

A stored car needs a few steps to stay in good condition. Start with a clean, dry vehicle, then address the items that deteriorate when a car sits. Good preparation reduces the chance of problems when you come back to drive it.

• Wash and dry the vehicle thoroughly, including the undercarriage

• Fill the gas tank and add a fuel stabilizer

• Use a battery maintainer or disconnect the battery

• Inflate tires to the recommended pressure and consider stands for long storage

• Use a breathable car cover rather than plastic

• Place moisture absorbers in the cabin and trunk

• Start the vehicle periodically if your manufacturer recommends it, and never run it in an enclosed space

Check your owner's manual or ask a qualified mechanic for storage guidance specific to your vehicle, especially for classic or high-performance cars.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is the difference between a carport and an enclosed unit for a car?

A carport unit is covered and open on the sides, so it keeps a car out of sun and rain. An enclosed unit is fully closed with an alarmed door, offering more privacy and protection from theft and weather.

  • Can I store two cars in one unit?

A 16 by 50 foot Private Enclosed unit can hold two vehicles, depending on their size. Call our office to confirm the fit before you rent.

  • Do you have electricity for battery chargers?

Electrical service is available on some units. Ask our office which units have power if you plan to use a battery maintainer.

  • Can I visit my car during storage?

Yes. Our office hours are Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm and Saturday and Sunday from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm. Drive-up access lets you reach your unit easily.
